Located at the State Park Beach @ Tower Road, just south of Dewey Beach, ocean side.

START: Exactly at 7:30 AM
, Delaware Seashore State Park, Tower Road Beach, approximately one mile south of Dewey Beach, Delaware. The State Park is on your left heading south. Depending on the direction of the current on race morning, racers will assemble either ½ mile north or south from the beach in front of the transition area.

PACKET PICK-UP: Friday September 18th, 2009 @ Sussex Family YMCA
from 2:00PM to 9:30 PM Sussex Family YMCA, 20080 Church Street in Rehoboth (302-296-9622). Confirm that you name is on the participants list (see "participant list" at www.deweybeachtriathlon.com ) before packet pick-up. If you are not on the list, contact the race director. There will be a minimal packet pickup on race morning from 6:00 to 6:45AM at the race site. It is not recommended.  Absolutely no race day registration. You must bring the following items for packet pickup: 1. your photo ID 2. your USAT card if you have one. Note: There is no helmet inspection, however, an ANSI approved helmet is required for the bike portion of the event.

PARKING: Parking is Limited. The State Park will open at 5:45AM and requires a parking pass for vehicles.  ALL PARTICIPANTS & VOLUNTEERS CAN GET IN TO THE PARK FREE BY DISPLAYING YOUR RACE NUMBER. Parking is also available across RT. 1 at Tower Road-Bay, or 1/2 mile South at Key Box (ocean side) and New Road (bayside). Sorry, No Dogs Allowed in the Park. A shuttle will be taking racers and spectators to and from the park leaving from points along Dewey Beach. Stay tuned for more shuttle details. 

PLEASE be sure to spread the word to any of your friends and family who plan on watching to arrive early!!! There is only one way in and out of the park for vehicular traffic, therefore you can not enter the Park by car after the race begins at 7:30 AM. For those who choose to walk, it is only a ½ mile walk into Dewey Beach, which does not require permits this time of year. Do not park in the private residence of Indian Beach or on Rt. 1 highway. As a spectator, use extreme caution when crossing the bike route.

Join us for an "All You Can Eat" fixed-price pasta dinner, Friday night before the race, from 5 - 10 PM at Gary’s Dewey Beach Grill at New Orleans Street and Route 1 in Dewey Beach. (302-227-8519).

THE COURSE:  (due to unforeseen conditions, additional course changes may take place.)

SWIM:
The swim is a point-to-point swim in the Atlantic Ocean. Before the race begins, we will walk to the starting point. Start is approx. 1/2 mile north or south of the transition area to allow racers to swim with the current. All swimmers must go completely around each buoy. There will be lifeguards and kayaks to assist you. You must wear your color-coded swimcap issued at registration. Wetsuits are allowed. Remember, this is an open water event and water conditions can be choppy. Be prepared. The swim will be held unless conditions are considered dangerous by the Rehoboth Beach Beach Patrol. We reserve the right to make the event into a biathlon in extreme weather conditions. Water temperature will be approx.72 degrees.

BIKE
: After completing the swim, you will transition and bike across Route 1, head south and bike a total of  7.2 miles on flat Highway One.  State police will monitor the turnaround directly in front of the Inlet Bridge. A strong headwind can be expected either out or back. There will not be any aid stations on the bike course. Competitors should carry adequate supplies of fluids to prevent dehydration. Draft marshals will be on the course. 
To prevent crashes, please do not drop water bottles along bike course. Bikers will be sharing the road with Route 1 traffic, but the shoulders are very wide and well marked. Please use caution at the U-turn and at the end of the bike portion entering the State Park. The staff of the Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon will make every effort to make the bike leg 15 miles before the day of the event. Be prepared.

RUN:
This is subject to change.  The run is 3.1 miles. You will exit the transition area, opposite the bike entrance, across a 30 yard mulch
path, designated for racers only. Turn right at the end of the path and head North on Highway One through Dewey Beach. Stay right onto Alternate Rt. 1 heading towards Rehoboth. The turnaround will be just before Silver Lake before heading back to the transition area and finish Line.

TIMING:  You must wear the race chip and unaltered race number at all times during the event. You will receive your Race Chip during packet pick-up or just before the race.  You will be responsible for returning the chip whether you race or not. All parties that do not return their race chips and bands will be charged $$. 

INSURANCE: Your must be at least 15 years of age to race. This is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and all participants must either be a USAT member or purchase a one day membership. For more information on USA Triathlon, go to their website at www.usatriathlon.org. Athletes are encouraged to complete the event evaluation located on their website in an effort for USAT to obtain more information on this event.

RACE CAPACITY: We will accept approximately 1,000 participants and we reserve the right to close registration when deemed necessary. We make every effort to keep the race at 1000 people in the race. Do not time your entry. IF you register when 950 people are signed up and you miss the cut off, we can not be responsible. Do not wait to register. We can not predict when the race will fill up. (There is a NO refund policy in effect.)

PRIZES: Prizes to the top finishers in the following age groups:  15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.  Awards go to the top three male, female and mixed relay teams and the specialty classes of Clydesdale and Athena.  

POST-PARTY: A spread of food for triathletes immediately following the race. You may want to bring a chair or towel to sit on. The food is for racers so family members are asked to donate $5 each for food if they plan to eat. A raffle is also held, for sponsor donated "door prizes," so that everyone can go home a winner.

FIRST TIME TRIATHLETE CLINIC: Friday night before the race at 6 pm at the race site. Unfortunately, the State Park must charge everyone who enters the park by car at this time. Car pool if possible or park in Dewey and ride your bike. Bring any questions you may have. This clinic is highly recommended for first timers.
